Ocean News 23: A Changing World

This is Ocean News 23, a show dedicated to covering the most important topics in the fields of Oceanography, Marine Science and Ocean technology. This week we cover many important stories including the rapid melting of Antarctica’s glaciers. Many studies are currently being done to assess the main causes of ice melt. Also many new technologies are being fielded to gather critical data on this glacier ice melt. Tsunami’s underwater may be one of the causes along with warm water melting the glaciers from below. Teledyne’s APEX float for the first time ever was able to travel under the ice shelves to gather critical data. Scripps researchers were using other methodologies to gather critical data despite recent trouble with federal funding.

Other News includes the Adelie Penguin seeing his shadow which declares 6 more weeks of summer for Antarctica and 6 more weeks of winter for the Northern Hemisphere. Good news for skiers. We also took a close look at a glass squid filmed by Schmidt Ocean Institute. On oil spill from Brazil has washed onshore in Florida, scientists track it back 5,300 miles. One of the other recurring stories is the automation of the world’s naval vessels, both surface and underwater. This time NATO’s Task Force X and their rapid transformation to unmanned warfare.

Also D-2 Incorporated will be exhibiting and giving a flash talk at the Blue Innovation Symposium in Newport Rhode Island. D-2 News: https://www.d-2.com/d2-news/
